Can’t really say much about Tapestry that countless people haven’t already said, but it is songwriting perfection for me.
Of course, I can never do this song justice- there are two piano parts and singing it in the original key is a touch too high for me these days, but I’m really happy to have done this.
tapestry was a breakthrough album, the beginning of the singer songwriter phenomenon, when writers of hit songs (like this one for aretha franklin in 1967) were able to develop second careers as performers of their own material… you do a terrific job, not only of singing the song, but evoking that whole early seventies musical world that introduced so many singer songwriters AM radio. cat steves is a good example, his first two albums relaes in 1967 bombed, but contained hits such as the first cut is the deepest, released in 67 by pp arnoild. but uit wasnt until 1979, when he was signed toIskand/A&M that he blossomed as a solo recording artist,
I love this song. You really did it justice - both with the excellent piano and nicely done and great sounding vocals. I also like that the chorus is so gentle in your version. Nice cover!
