"They Matter" - a Christmas song ? - original, draft, 12 Dec 2024 ustaknow

  • There is a [ “Lyrics/Notes” ] tab on the track page - has the lyrics, etc.

Explanation:
Some feel 2024 may be the start of the Tribulation which gets into so many things - and is why one has to know the congregation and liturgy to which one may be engaging.

Moreover, “P&W” is for the most part to a “captive” audience and often times one that observes, not participates. I’ve avoided P&W leadership for years now since I - will stop if the only one “singing” since I am not there to “perform” and entertain - just part of the group. That tends to not go over well; but, I’m okay with that.

So, “this” is my response to - “please write a “Christmas” song”. Well, what is a Christmas song? Moreover, versus a “Holiday” or secular-entertainment track? So, this engages those that may feel we are entering, end-times pre-tribulation and which may be broken up (lyric lines) into extended “repeats” like:
“Peace, love and harmony for all lives do matter”

Sometimes if folks get “into it” they like to grind on a line - which is fine.

I “hear” this with a heavy 4/4 full drum kit banging away, down and back beat, single stroke 1 per tom fills, etc., for those that like that.

I have a bit of a cold presently - and am on those OTC meds which are not good for you, and fog up everything. So, I felt, prior to deleting this, I’d put it here - lol! And then, pick it up tomorrow. It’s not a “joyful” “Away in The Manger” type song. So, I am not sure if can “call it” a Christmas song. Again, allot hinges on who the congregation is. I read the Lyric to someone that is usually quite critical and “dense” about this stuff - and immediately “liked it”. So, I don’t know what to make of it, esp. with the cold meds LOL! and stuffy ears, etc. I can’t believe I “sang” it - got it out between coughing fits : )

  • So, again, I’m not keen on these types of songs from “me”, so again, figured put it here prior to deleting it lol!

I like the rhythm of this - reminds me of protest songs from the 60s. This year I’m avoiding those sappy, happy songs. I don’t know why people are so quick to label a song “sad” or “dark” as if that’s a bad thing.

  • That’s an interesting point!

I remember there being some “mainstream” radio played songs where the artist/band (can’t remember who/what) commented, something like “surprised when folks sang along” since was, as they put it not with the upbeat way they played it - “sad played as jolly”, so to speak. I remember singing along late night to a metal song… then, my brain registered a “suicide chant” o m g!.. : ) - turned the radio off and discovered “death metal” genre - didn’t know existed. Great music, not a chant I’d want anyone ear worming! Oh my…

I thought the person I mentioned here I read the Lyric too - was 100% not going to like it. But, I guess how they heard it was more of the, kind of “neutral” intent, just is what it is, “oh, hey, fyi on this thing over here many are considering” : ) lol! so to speak. Otherwise, I would have tossed it then. That reaction got it this far. Okay, so, not deleting it. (Not 'till after over this congestion cold I have.)

Otherwise too, getting tltr again - apologies:

  • I’m hoping folks might take to the so many unsung songs in the “hymnal” since the melody (monotoned choral no one knows) is up/down one whole step and very quarter note-y… so, I just put a subtle 1-4-5 and sing the “spoken word” rhythm and many sound like kind of “neutral” cowboy songs with the other words instead - like Jesus, Salvation, Baby-child, etc. (I love 3 verse songs with no chorus, or just a line or two - the ADD to my OCD in my music : ) )

Hahhh… makes me think about one song everyone seems to like and they get to sing the word “Gloria”… … … for many measures on one breath, modulating away. I think it (my issue is) - goes back to some childhood thing when saw “grown ups” competing with “that” : ) hahhh!!! Everyone sang “opera” that day - as chesty as they could : )

  • Funny, the odd memories that come out during the “Holidays” season I suppose.
