Very limited time today, but managed to lash a quick guitar and vocal take together (I say ‘lash’ because there’s no way I was going to play and sing simultaneously, the guitar part is ropey enough as it is ). Embarrassingly, I thought I was covering Soft Cell, and didn’t realise that their version was itself a cover. So I suppose I had Soft Cell in my head, but did listen to Gloria Jones just before recording this.
This is awesome! I’ve actually never heard any of these covers done so differently of this song. I love it! Maybe I’ll try it one day! You sound fantastic.
Ha! The version I know is the one by Soft Cell but had no idea it was them. Awesome song. Enjoying the rhythm and growl in your version. Super cool!
I love this version - and I know both version - what a cool take on the song - the 80’s have been replaced with a cool indie kind of vibe. Awesome guitar and vocals.
Great version here.
I’m liking the tortured vocals over top of the clean acoustic guitar.
Great concentration on the lyrics rather than drowning them in instrumentation.
A really worthy cover of this classic (the original, not the Soft Cell version. ).
love the rawness. totally engaging pull you in with every note… love your vocals
Very different take than either the original or the Soft Cell version. Sounds great with just the guitar.
Very cool take on this, so much anguish in the vocals which makes more sense than the almost deadpan delivery of Marc Almond.
