Pantomime Horse, by suede

Playing this song causes me to reflect on how time can flip on you. When I met the guy who wrote it, I was 45 years old and he was 30. Today he is 57 and I am 73. So he is now 12 years older than I was when I met him We are both getting up here but still playing this song he wrote in his mid 20’s.
for comparison, here is his band doing the song 1in 1993

and again in 2023 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6A_oaMZaN_4

I have a very clear recollection of having a horrible day at college and walking into town after lectures to buy this album on cassette to cheer myself up. Animal Nitrate had been all over the radio and I couldn’t wait for the album to be released.
One of my friends turned their nose up but I was passionately declaring Suede to be the future of pop music…and this album has long been heralded as the start of Britpop in the 90s.

Great cover Bill, really good to hear this song again.

thanks for listening to my cover of pantomime horse, suede was may favorite band of the 90’s. when thier first album came out, they wertr giving away free love and poison vhs tapes along witht he CD. every song was a hit. when my girlfriend and i saw them in 1993, i almost had to put a leash around her to keep her from love-bombing brett. when they returned in 95, i was writing for a muic magazine, so i contacted their manager to set up an interview and ended up spending the whole day of the show with him, as he had injured his leg the night before and was on crutches and just wanted to cool out. that afteroon inspired me to quit the new england folk circuit and go back to my hometown of seattle to start a rock band. it was two years before i did that, but my timing was perfect. the grunge era, which i disliked, had ended, soundgarden had broken up so their drum tech, who i had played with in the late seventies, was out of a job so we put a band together and i kept playing rock music until 2012, when i moved to peru, and their knowledge of rock music ended with guns n roses. thats when i joined fawm and just concentrating on writing, not performing, songs. now im back in the states and thinking of playing out again.
