Moon River (1961, Danny Williams)

Not sure I was that familiar with Danny Williams recording of Moon River but a quick look at Wikipedia suggests that Henry Mancini’s orchestral version was released alongside Breakfast At Tiffany’s in October 1961, with almost simultaneous vocal releases by Jerry Butler in the US and Danny Williams in the UK.

Williams had a handful of other singles in the lower end of the charts but clearly the song and movie were the reason his recording made Christmas number one.

One take ukulele as with all my Christmas covers so far.

ive neot heard danny willims version, but have heard a few hundred others, including my own. my favorite, though, is a tie between andy williams, who opened his television variety show with it every week, and morrissey, who recorded it as a B Side. your rendition has more of the pathos of audrey hepburn (she did her own singing) in the movie.

Your vocals and the uke really work nicely together in this song. I found the Breakfast at Tiffany’s version to be depressing as was the movie but I was just a kid when I first saw it and more into Doris Day and Sandra Dee. Too young for the movie. But your vocals give the song more of a lift.

This is a good version of the song. The vocal and ukulele parts work really well together.
