such a oretty, comforting song. the spoken word parts lend an intimacy to the performance, it is like you are actually singing to someone.
When I was a kid and lived on Jamaica Ave., in Brooklyn, we didn’t sing songs like that! : ) lol!
That’s exactly why it was so important to record in 1972 with big, burly football player Rosey Grier. At the end, he ad-libbed “It’s all right to cry, little boy. I know some big boys that cry, too,” or something like that, and the producers loved it.
: ) I had to look it up - good stuff.
You don’t hear the wah pedal used like that much anymore, a period-ism that then, probably didn’t “stand out”. I didn’t know he could sing!
Feel like I needed to hear this song today. Had a bit of a cry over my morning coffee, for no reason at all other than having very little sleep last night, and felt a bit silly. Now I feel warmly reassured
