When I was working as a music critic, I was often faced with the challenge of giving a fair review to n artist whose album I couldnt stand. When i was assigned to Nelly Furtado’s first US tour, I didnt know how I was going to deal with it. I had never heard of her and the promo album they sent me was terrible. Or so I thought at the time. All kinds of thoughts on how I was going to review her show went through my mind, none of them good. But then I went to concert, and I was a fan from the first song. https://www.seattlepi.com/entertainment/music/article/sizzling-furtado-ignites-packed-house-1078967.php
The main hook of this song has long been an ear worm for me, one of those lines that I’ll catch myself singing without knowing I’m doing it.
But I’d never really paid attention to the rest of the words, so bittersweet, and you have made me hear the song in a different way. Lovely cover Bill, might be one of my favourites that you’ve done.
my best friends daughter was a big fan, so i invited her to be my plus one for the shw. during im like a bird, she and a dozen other children, were invited to come onstage and sing along with nelly on the choruses. it was a memorble moment, and reminded me of when i was 17 and got on stage with pink floyd on their first american tour to play the saxophone part of Colonel Clegg on kazoo.
