Hmm, I would appreciate it if the rest of the covers I posted got a comment or two. 3 of the tracks from Pink Floyd’s Piper that I posted at the start of the month, have no comments at the moment…
But I am thankful for the feedback I have gotten thus far.
I think a spot of zong busting is in order. I tried to keep up with everything at the beginning when it was a slow trickle of songs, but then all of a sudden there’s almost 300!
Commenting on the older songs will push them back up to the top of the list- if you have it ordered by ‘Latest’, as I do- so hopefully that will get some of the older ones a bit more attention.
I know what you mean. Much harder to keep up in this venue than FAWM. Harder to track what’s new or any particular artist. I appreciate all my comments but I gotta say if it wasn’t for @BillWhite51 most of my songs would be pretty lonely. So thank you so very much, Bill!
@sbs i think you and i post so many songs that it is impossible for people to keep up with them. i have so mnay zongs that i lost count of them. but on the bright side, there have been so many people posting songs that it has really been an exciting rocktober. i have heard great versins of dozens of songs i have never heard before. a big thank you to all who have participated. still a few more days left and i have a few more songs in my bag.
Oh my, I did post 16 songs this Rocktober. Is that more than most? What would help, and maybe this is a thing but I just haven’t seen it. is to be able to click on a person’s name to browse their songs to make sure all are seen. I’ve done a heck of a lot of commenting but, you’re right, it’s hard to catch every song. Anyway, just wanted to say thank you to all! See you in February, I hope. Right now I feel so creatively spent, I can’t imagine ever writing another song - lol!
@sbs, yeah, as far as I know you can click around on someone’s name and see some of their posts and songs. Just do some exploring and maybe something will turn up…
So here’s something to think about.
Beto and I are in discussions about what to do here.
If everyone is serious about keeping this place open all year round, we can do that and set up a PayPal link or something for donations (no pressure, though). Otherwise we can just shut it down until next year. I think we’d need a critical mass of members to keep up engagement for the year.
Thoughts?
In my experience running https://lemmy.studio/ (which costs only $1.32/user/year) it’s a bit more complicated than that because:
- Some people can’t pay, and that’s OK. The economy is a mess and nobody should not use the site because they can’t pay.
- Some people pay $1/month, which after processing fees becomes 50¢ or less. It’s better to pay for a whole year at once, if possible.
- A lot of people don’t pay because they think “oh, it costs only 11¢/month, so if I don’t pay it’s OK, it’s not much”.
- Worse, some people will stop donating because they think “if nobody’s paying, why should I?”
But I feel that even though the community here is smaller, it’s a tighter and more conscious community, and I’m happy to give this a try!
Well said.
- We’ll see what happens.
It’s great it’s being so well and freely discussed - only good stuff can come of it. And, if nothing else, it’s the best rocktober space in all these years - just do it again, next year! : )
Keeping it simple is good, when a lot of “we oughtta’s…” start happening - well, “this” worked, well, as-is, so, there you go (derUgo ; ) lol! )
- Roctober on, all. One day remains, so, Cover thing’s up! : )
ill donate my share if there is a consensus to keep it open, but i wont vote either for or against.
I’m just running across this and I have to get back to work, so I’m sure this is in one of the comments but: With the understanding that no one has to contribute, and not everyone will, what’s a suggested donation amount?
Maybe…let it roll in Nov and see how it felt…make decision re closing …last week of Nov? and donate the balance ? x
I would suggest $10, but any value helps. If 20% of the people contribute that should pay for the costs til the end of the year.
Thanks! I sent in a contribution.
@Beto i dont see a paypal button anywhere. how should we send in out donations?
@BillWhite51 I tried creating a button but the process was failing, PayPal hates me. If you have a PayPal account you can go to Log in to your PayPal account and then send the money to robdealmeida@gmail.com.
