On the chance someone wants a Nativity Hymn I was leafing through material and am always interested in all the other songs, never engaged. So, when saw this and the rhythmic meter of the written word, jotted down G Em D C (capo 3) which seemed to fit the modulations. I’d never heard it previously.
Of course after I did this 1st pass 1 take phone recording - looked for it if existed anywhere. Not really, but if look, it comes up. I was not entirely surprised, but happy it followed the very “chordy” piano samples and then the one “Christmas Hymn” video - very single voice choir-y : ) sounding.
I think if one simply kept going up pitch even “more so”, each verse, could be an interesting “Trans-Siberian Orch-a…” number. It’s only a 2 min lyric which would be easy to parse out repeats.

I like the slow climb of the melody and how the first two verses don’t resolve back to the root chord- would you have left the final verse hanging unresolved in a different take?
Found a handful of versions of this on YouTube, using the tune of Good King Wenceslas, so you could try it using the GKW words to fit your music (spoiler- I’ve tried it, and it sounds good!)

Oh, thank you much for the comment, feedback!
In my area, so many in so many directions, actually kills the music “scene”.
This band I think is somewhat well known. I think, here, in my region, if bands went back to more of this kind of songs - mixture of upbeat, folk, humor, shanty’s etc., small venues, restaurants might bring live, light music back.
What I noticed after skimming many of their tracks, is, quite accidentally, my ad hoc progression could fit most if not all of theirs - hahhh. I guess that’s the Irish in all of us coming out of me : ) lol!
Actually, I am fairly sure, if someone said, “play something” and played one of these very old “shanty’s” (type, not just Sea, songs) - I guess one calls them - they’d be very happy to hear it versus, well - any other song one might pick.
There may be a place for me in a band somewhere yet : ) hahhh.
