Not posted anything for a while as I’ve been on a couple of trips, then hurt my hand (the good one, not the one that was hurting before!) and now recovering from a head cold.
But I’ve just found a handful of songs I had recorded in November, won’t drop them all at once but will start with a couple of ukulele songs.
Not sure if The Coral were known outside of the UK, they were a jangly indie 60s influenced band, think this song was from the early 00s.
Ukulele and main vocal one take recording, with harmonies overdubbed.
Great sound. No, never hear of them. I’ll look up their music, CD. The problem (?) so to speak is that since may not have been to “mainstream”, (looks like that got some major push here - late night TV) - the imports here will be like $28 a CD lol! (not quite). So, that won’t help.
Anyway, from this track, great sound.
So, had some time and pulled them up on apple music .com - all there to preview. They have an extensive collection! I liked their “Distance Inbetween” (how it’s spelled) - live album.
The lock down 2020 stuff was nice too - but only comes 1 ea and mp3 - hahh, to much work and a buck a piece then : )
it was 2002 when I heard their first album and I liked it at the time. I fdont think they ever toured the US, and I didnt hear anything from them after that first album, Your cover brings me back to that time. Had I not been working in a record store at that time I might never have heard of them. A lot of good bands came out around that time that never really had any hits that would have given them a mainstream success. They were a band I would group with Coldplay, who went on to have a smashing career, all because of Yelllow. The band I really liked from hat period was Travis, who I saw opening for Dido, but their live act didnt do justice to their albums.
I think the early-mid 00s saw the last run of decent new guitar/indie bands in the UK top 40. The charts got taken over by tv talent show winners, performing arts school alumni and ‘producer featuring singer’ which is mostly where we’ve been for 20 years it seems.
Travis, Coldplay and Muse were the ones who had the biggest impact in taking over the baton from the remnants of Britpop, but some other great bands around then were Hard -Fi, Bloc Party, Maximo Park, Snow Patrol. And of course Muse took things to a different space rock place that the others would never have gone.
i agree. 1992-1996 were the golden years. the last english band i really liked was Keane, who i saw and loved in 2005, and was disappointed when i saw them again in 2007.
