Think this might be me done for the month, although I fully intend to keep listening.
This is hands down my favourite song released this year. Markus King is an incredible singer and guitarist, and it’s produced by Rick Rubin - I’ve tried to get as close to the record as time, equipment and talent will allow (so not that close), mainly because it’s made for a fun learning exercise. Rubin made a lot of pretty mad choices on the original record - the bouncing echo on the piano, the panning and saturation on the drums - on what is essentially a classic Nashville-style blues rock ballad. Hope you enjoy
Thanks for turning me onto this. At first I thought it was going to be the Tom Jones “Delilah,” which is my dad’s favorite. Listened to this on YouTube. What’s amazing is the FABulous guitar and how close you got to Marcus King vocally and production-wise. Incredible production all around!
this track is living evidence of how muchcan be learned by playing covers, in this case im hearing a lot of production ideas carried out famously that i havent heard in your previous recordings. it is a process of expanding one’s vocabulary. I know very little about production, so in my own cover world im not keyed into that area, but i do learn something new from every song i cover. im sorry the month is coming to an end, i have enjoyed your work here so much and look forward to hearing you go forward in february.
Love that echo on the piano - so atmospheric. Gorgeous vocals - perfectly emotive and well styled. Those harmonies in the chorus are just right. Holy guitar solo - what a cool sound. I am enjoying the production on this so much. The drums are really cool. Great cover!
