In 2012, Kylie Minogue released an album of re-recorded versions of her older hits, called The Abbey Road Sessions. The original hi-NRG pop and disco tracks were completely transformed with orchestral or stripped down versions. Does this make my version a cover of a cover?!
Now I want to do a cover of a cover of a cover by adding some Trap beats to this - lol! Quite lovely vocals.
Oooooh, you added some backing vocals at the end! This is very good. Love it
Super smooooooth vocal. Great piano playing…love a piano song.
you have the deicate sophistication of a dionne warwick here,si much so that i had to check to see if it was a bacharch song. or at least one of those he wrote wth ekvis costello. a truly elegant performance
Thanks Bill. Looks like the behemoth that was Stock Aitken and Waterman never reached you in the 80s! They were a songwriting/production team that had a massive impact on the UK charts from the late 80s for several years, probably the most well known internationally is Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up.
Most people think of them as being cheesey but when you take a deeper dive into the music they used a lot of interesting chord progressions and extensions, key changes galore and a lot of influences from Motown and Bacharach to disco and Euro pop.
Suring the 80s I was a jazz radio jock and didnt hear a lot of pop mudic outside of prince, kate bush, elvis costello, lou reed, and nick cave.
Wowzers, like you say, doing it in this way doesn’t half bring home the quality of the writing. It does sound like a Bacharach number, and you’ve done a splendid version here. Love the nuance and delicacy in the vocals, and that electric piano accompaniment is perfect. Bravo!
