Liniks to the track on the BandLab page:
Another “acoustic-simplified”, 1st pass 1 take P&W, easier (?) to do song (congregational/gang vocal). G C2 Em D - for me CAPO 1st fret, even 2nd, but for this bounce is on 1st fret.
-
This from that pop-up (Ai) page of suggestions to try, some of which I had not heard in - eh, 20 years ish… so, seems like I got #8 that may be different some may respond to well (?) who knows : )
-
I had never heard this one, or of the folks that do it and not normally something I’d engage - so, trying to “stretch” a bit here… like that prior one too, same thing (Build My House, Housefires - cover - and, acoustic simplified).
-
For “me” something “congregational” needs to have limited vocal range (not a “performance/audition” selection), uncomplicated, if many engage it and others are doing other things as well - it’ll all blend into a joyful “noise”, lol!; which, is a good thing.

I am very familiar with this song. What a cool cover! I like the idea of jumping in and making your own melody and rhythm when all you have are lead sheets. Turned out great!
I did that a couple of times when my guitar teacher gave me lead sheets to songs I’d never heard. Once I finally heard the original I was attached to my own made-up melody. But then I started playing it the originally written way and ended up forgetting how my melody sounded. Bummer

Hey, thank you for the comment, feedback.
- Well, I can’t help but wonder what others experiences are more recently, or maybe just me for some reason – it went from zero response for anything along Faith-based or Christian-alternative (other places - not speaking of here), let alone 150 yo stodgy (so to speak) hymns from the 1700’s to folks of (not the profile : ) ) … that genre “liking” – to feedback, positive and as much than any “other” genre.
I “hear” there is a resurgence in it being “acceptable” (publicly I am supposing) to engage “stuff” of Faith, Christian Following. (It always being acceptable to engage in other, etc.)
Anyway - if that’s an awakening I’m hearing about - and kinda feeling it - well, just call me “Thomas” : ) and wondering out-loud.
- Actually, i been kinda surprised (how to say that) with all if it here, now - glad, but didn’t expect it.
I’m probably 90% - inappropriate to do material otherwise; and not wanting to give that up; but, it’s been great to have this mix here - wow!
I hope I don’t jinx it but sideways asking what your experience has been - so, just skip it, ignore this otherwise.
For me, some of the real, hard, effective “Rock” and “Blues” songs that dove into someones “wretched” experience was an original hook for me, or the “Sound” of “it” that I’d feel from it sonically - like the Trumpet playing I heard when I was like 8yo ala Louis Armstrong (kinda weird for a NYC street kid to be liking that possibly back then). (Dad like Polkas and Beer Hall chants : ) ompa ompa ompa … - not a good match in that household so not sure where it came from other than “inside” - out).
